I believe that a Vauxhall engine and Carlton/Manta gearbox is a relatively common conversion for SJs. Not entirely sure how easily it'll drop into a Vitara but I can't imagine it being that hard. Main thing will be wiring and mounts.

Vitara's don't have a divorced transfer box like sjs so this makes conversions more awkward, you could swap to an Sj tbox but then you get funky rear prop angles because the Sj has an offset rear diff and the vit has a centred rear diff. It would make life a lot easier to use something that can bolt straight up to the vit gearbox or uses a conversion plate to bolt up.

There is also the 2.5 Suzuki V6 however I'm pretty sure the chassis rails are too narrow on the 1.6 vits for them????

Then again you could go down the Toyota route if you are willing to do all the fab work to fit the hilux transmission in, then you have the options of the supra 2jz 3.0 twin turbo or the 1uz 4.0 v8 :brows:

Sounds like a plan for when I get a little run around. But if a vaux engine and box would mate up that sounds like the easiest and keep just 2wd. Im not sure all the fab work would be worth it with everything else id need to change aswell.
how would I even work out what would mate to the vit box?
