Could be Scottie, I'm not really sure. I think a photo is in need to make things a bit clearer. Basically I need something to cover the ball joints on the axles as water and rubbish will just get in otherwise and I don't want that to happen ! :) My friends landy has a leather material bag covering his.

id say degrease it all down and overhaul the cv joint/s. Its not hard job. if i remember rightly that the cv joint has the felts to "clean" off any dirt/muck that gets on the the chrome balls (cant remember the exact name). but in the back of the hub there is a big 0 ring/seal/ and thats what stops the dirt going in/grease coming out of the joint.

Just get some new seals and felts, there is no need for anything else covering the knuckle ball.

I don't really know why your mate has something covering them either, it really is not needed if the seals are in good condition.

It should look like this

Yeah. As above there is nothing to cover the end of the ball/knuckle. All SJs have is a rubber seal, two piece semi circle retainer, felt seal then another two piece semi circle retainer.

Just give it a wash off. Not unusal to get mild pitting but the constant movement of the steering self cleans most of the crud off.

I see what you all mean now, makes much more sense now it's been explained, plus it helps not looking for something that shouldn't be there in the first place ! :D Thanks for the help guys ;) Where abouts can I order a set of these ? Also are they easy to fit ? While I'm at it, I notice that the 410 axles are smaller than the 413's, is bigger better ? Thanks :)
