On road Gear Ratios
Re: Rear disc conversion is it worth it? Thoughts on set ups
wel basically, when doing 50 or 60 does the engine rev at a calm speed? ie not revving its nuts off?
just want to have an engfine that will drive me at 50 without screaming its nuts off, last thing i want to do it blow it to pieces lol, my f10a screams like mad at 50, not even tried 60, think it wouldnt even last 10 minutes doing that lol...

Re: Rear disc conversion is it worth it? Thoughts on set ups
Those f10's are revvy little solid engines. I do 70 in 4th in Helens every so often. Its a bit screamy. 60 in a 410 is fine!
My 1.6 just lumbers along at 50 in 5th. No drama. I tend to use 4th unless cruising though as I prefer the noise.

Re: Rear disc conversion is it worth it? Thoughts on set ups
im trying to work out gear ratios and its confusing me, does anyone know what rpm theyre doing at 50, or 60?
i seem to of worked it out at 4000 rpm doing 61 mph, i dont want to be doing that sort of revs down the motorway on a 140 mile trip, i definitly dont want to get rid of the SJ so i need to keep the revs low...
is there a way to increase the final drive ratio? would fitting bigger tires ie 31's help keep the engines revs down at motorway speeds? no faster than 60 though..
i have a f10a with 4 speed box and 410 transfer box obviously, 410 axles and diffs all standard the only difference ive made is 29" tires..
im going to be doing a 1.6 conversion so ill have 1.6 8v engine 413 gearbox, 410 tbox, 410 diffs and axles, 29" tires ( i may fit 30/31" tires if it helps)

Re: Rear disc conversion is it worth it? Thoughts on set ups
I would tell you what revs I do, but my rev counter is broken and has been for ages!
With my 1.6 16v I can cruise at 50mph in 4th and its not really revving high at all.
I usually only go into 5th when I'm at 60mph or above
Bear in mind that mind is a late samurai so probably has the highest standard gearing you can get.
Ive not changed any gear ratios, transfer box or diffs at all, just have 235 x 75 r 15 tyres
I plan on cruising along the motorway up to Dans tomorrow at about 65

Re: Gear Ratios
To keep the last thread on topic of brakes I have split the thread, guys can we please make sure we start new threads if you want to ask about different topics, It gets confusing when people are talking about two completely different subjects in the same thread. Thanks.
Guys don't forget that Jay is on 410 axles so he has lower ratios in the diffs, therefore he'll be sat at higher revs at the same speed as those with a 1.6. 1.3 gearbox and 410 transfer box with samurai axles.
The G13 and G16 doesn't like to rev as much as the F10.
Jay to raise the final drive ratio the easiest thing to do would find some 413 axle cases (not samurai) as these bolt straight up on a 410, then fit some samurai axles.

Re: Gear Ratios
sounds good, should be okay then...
no worries scottie..
arent the samurai axles wider though? wouldnt the half shafts from the samurai axles stick out of the 413 axle casing?

I beg to differ!ScottieJ wrote:The G13 and G16 doesn't like to rev as much as the F10.
They can but they need 8 additional valves in them
For 8v engines though you're definitely right on that one
If you put 413 axles on, you can then use a samurai diff and 413 driveshaftsJay18 wrote:arent the samurai axles wider though? wouldnt the half shafts from the samurai axles stick out of the 413 axle casing?

Re: Gear Ratios
You only need to use the diffs from the samurai axles, your 410 front and rear shafts and CVs will fit I would recommend running the 413 (not samurai) front shafts and CVs as they are stronger, However that's not really important unless you run large offroad tyres, I beat on Jap 410 CVs for years with 31s and 33s and only blew up a fewJay18 wrote:sounds good, should be okay then...

Re: On road Gear Ratios
so basically i need 413 axles and just fit samurai diffs into the axles? straight bolt in swap? i wont need to butcher or swap anything else?
also would the 410 prop shafts bolt straight back to the samurai diffs?
