Thanks guys!!

I'm fully road legal in it now, and even though there are a few minor bits to do, I've had to have a play tonight. I went to do a few green lanes around Yate Holme, near Holmfirth.

Good news is that nothing fell off.

Bad news is that it over heated at one point. It looks like the thermostat isn't working as the top hose was very hot, the bottom hose was cold, even the radiator was cool mid way down.

How does it go? Compared to my road car, very slowly!! :D

Compared to how it was, probably much better, but it's been off the road so long it's hard to remember. It certainly doesn't seem to struggle on hills as it did, and there are plenty of those in Yorkshire!

My worries over the clutch didn't materialise as all seemed in order.

So just the thermostat to sort (hopefully), and back out playing.

Tonight has brought back the memories of how terrible an SJ is on the road, in fact so terrible that they are GREAT.

:smokin:

I only went from 1.3 to 1.6 and the difference was amazing. Used to have to flog it up "grand bank" now it just cruises up.

I don't know what you mean about their road manners. Mine handles like a ferrari.....

Thanks for all the nice comments guys, it does make you feel quite good when zipping around in it.

So the over heating bit is now sorted I think. It wasn't the thermostat, it was the donkey who plumbed it all up. ME!! :screwy:

I put the heater control valve in the pipework for the engine circulation, pre thermostat opening. So when the heater was on full all was fine. Turn the heater off, and it stopped the water circulation, causing it to overheat.

It's sorted now, a bit of a pig as there is no room around the throttle body for pipes, but managed some how.

I thought I'd had a top idea tonight. I've got a little cheapie clock, volt meter thermometer thing on the dash. I fitted the outside temp measuring sensor in the top hose and all was looking good for engine temp. It was as accurate as my infra red thermometer, but it maxed out at 70 degrees C, bummer!

I've started fabricating the tunnel top tonight, as it makes a right racket when its open, but the transfer box lever will need a little "massage" to clear the cover.

I've done quite a few miles in it now, and all sweet. Thinking back to how it was, it is much quicker than before.

Still got the standard one in for the time being, I just want to play for a while.

Only a few teething problems then! Would love to see this conversion in person! Sounds pretty nippy! 8-)
