ladaman, i am thinking about doing this conversion and would like to know if there are any posibilities of pictures of the engine conversion?

so pics to show where the hoses go to? anything that may help the conversion?

think this conversion is very interesting and i like the fact you get better torque and hp than a 1.6 8v but still in the lower tax bracket...

Pictures aren't a problem, I will look to put some up for you.

Cooling system will be the least of your worries. (I did have a problem doing it though, LOL) The thing that might put you off could be cost.

I was fortunate in the fact my son bent his Ignis Sport, so I had pretty much a full car available as a donor for not much money. This provided engine, loom, engine management & fuse box, fuel tank with inbuilt fuel pump, dashboard (but not yet fitted) and steering wheel 'cos it's tons better than an SJ one.

Then from a Jimny you will need engine sump, oil pick up pipe, gearbox from one with the M series engine, exhaust manifold, thermostat housing and water pipes from cylinder head to the radiator, probably engine mounts (I made my own from scratch). I think the clutch is an Ignis cover plate and Jimny friction plate.

I then made a custom exhaust, I think from 50mm tube with just a single motor bike "can" for a silencer.

I'm sure there are other bits I've forgotten.

Was it worth it? Definitely!

Would I do it again if I had to buy everything at "normal" prices? Not so sure.

The above will give you a decent shopping list to cost it all up.

If you're not in a hurry you can buy one bit at a time when you find a "bargain".

The 1.6 Vitara route sounds MUCH cheaper.
Which is better? I've no idea as I haven't been in a Vitara powered SJ.

Have a read through this thread. It may get your juices going, or it may put you off.

If you do decide to do it, I'm more than happy to help.

Look for a Jimny for sale as Spares/Repair, buy it, take what you need and sell the rest.

Thanks ladaman, I read through it yesterday and it sounds like a very good mod to do, I'm looking at doing it in just over a year when I get some cash from my grandad that he left me,

I'm thinking of buying a whole damaged jimny, take what I need and strip and sell the rest, I was thinking a 2" straight through exhaust with a cherry bomb?

I've just done a 2" body lift so should gain a bit more space for it with that?

Not sure how many sensors the M engine has in its exhaust, but bear in mind that if it has a sensor before AND after the cat you will probably need that whole section

What year Jimny was your gearbox from, Ladaman?

According to this the 2001-2004 jimny had the same t-case and diff ratios as the coil sprung samurais and the 1999 G13BB engined jimny.

Suggesting that the gearbox was probably using the same ratios as the Sammy, which would make 5th an 1:0.864 ratio rather than 1:1.

Just curious about yours.

Not sure Anton.

I know I bought the wrong one first, as I thought it was down to year, BUT I've since found out it is down to tin top or soft top!! Amazing I know, and to be honest I can't remember the detail.

I was told one of them has the G series engine, the other the M series. Originally I bought box to suit a G, so sold that and got one for an M.

I don't know what you are thinking, but it could be right what you say, then again I've been told M series were about at the same time.

Does that help? Thought not. :hahaha:
