Mk1 Discoveries I can live with.....because I've had to. Stepdad's had two, Mum's had one. There have been Range Rovers too but they were nothing but trouble.

Just because your parents had them doesn't mean you have to like them

HAHAHAAHA! I don't have to like Discos or my parents?
I didn't say I liked Discos, I said I could live with them; as in tolerate them.
To be fair, out of all the things I've actually driven, a Discovery is the next best thing to an SJ. Everything else was just far too flawed. The main problem I have with Discoverys is the power steering. The best thing I can compare it to is a jet ski going very slowly and turning. You get no sense of where the wheels are pointing as you turn the wheel, you just have to watch where the nose is going.
Most cars feel too loose and wobbly, which sounds daft when I'm comparing them to an SJ but it's honestly what I've found. They just feel like they're going to fall out from under me.
The only cars I've driven that didn't feel sort of loose are various late 80s through early 2000s Vauxhalls. Trouble with those was the gear changing. The clutch is heavy and has no feel to it and the actual changing of gears feels vague as all hell, probably because they're front wheel drive so the stick isn't straight into the box like on an SJ.

A mates standard sj went through this bit (both ways) on a local green lane, then my other mates disco tryed one way and couldnt get through so went round and tryed the other way and got stuck. It took us 3 hours to get him unstuck lol.
Disco's are good for pulling out other stuck disco's, but when trying to move them with a sj its like a game of tug of war between fat bastard and mini me!

Right, sign me up, I'm in lads. Can't guarantee the SJ will be ready, but screw it - a deadline helps get your arse in gear.
I can always come in the Yaris if I can't get Suzi on the road by then. I've had that little Yaris on an RTI ramp before...
I think I'll leave the pikey palace at home and tent it. Might bring a portaloo though - although you lot won't want to borrow it if I have a curry at any point...
