They will run without the washers, but I know I wouldn't do that with mine.
It wasn't a hard thing to sort if you have access to the right equipment. See how you go, but I'm sure we can sort it if you get in trouble.

For a change as luck would have it a spare diff had some thrust washers at .75mm as opposed to my 1mm thrust washers locks on and disengages as it should although i havent tried it on the car. That was just with shafts in it.veryy happy though.
So differebt sized washers must be available.
