On road a 1.6, 410 tbox and samurai diffs with 33s is OK.......offroad it's pretty crap. I know this as I have that gearing option

Imagine running a 1.3 and 413 tcase ratios, and that's where I am right now.

It's not great on the road (5th is more of a joke than an actual gear). It's awesome offroad, except when I really need slow and steady, I'm often forced to gun it because I need the revs to get the torque because it's geared way too high.

I'm still embarrassing the LR's, but lower gearing would be totally awesome. I just cannot crawl over things right now, it's gun it or go home.

Thanks lads got some rims today 15x8 n will be gettin some tyres 31s in a few weeks so just wondering what kind n style do yas go for bin lookin on ebay n there r lots but didnt really want to buy off there , thanks

33x10.5 should also work, but 31's are going to be easier to get working without rubbing.

As for which tyres - it depends on what you want to do.

A mud focused machine - I'd recommend Simex style tyres like my Malatesta Kaiman's, also try Insa Turbo Special Track's, Ziarelli Extreme Forrest, actual Simex's...

Mike tells me that when he switched from those to Maxxis Mudzillas, they were as good if not better, but I don't know if you can get them in 31's.

If you are a little less hardcore mud munching, then any mud terrains will do - BF Goodrich MT's are good, a lot quieter on the road than Simex clones. Also Insa Turbo Sahara's - Twiss has them and does really well on them.

If you want the occasional mud trek and are interested in road stuff more, then go for all terrain tyres like BF Goodrich AT's.

For road only, I had good experiences with a set of 31" BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A's - they were ridiculously grippy. I got rid of them because swapping tyres to go offroad (my main focus) didn't make sense. Now I just run the Kaiman's. Great in the mud but loud on the road.

well am struggling for tyre choice here budget is £400 so no more than 100 a tyre less would be better lol was looking on 4x4 tyres and there r a few but I don't no whats best to go for my sj is now road legal so would be doing lyk green laning so would be driving places and where I live is old pit heaps n stuff I just don't want to waste my money n get completely the wrong type , thanks

GT Radial MTs, get 5 for your £400 so you can have a spare (presuming you have a wheel). I run them in 33s and think they are great, especially for the price. Fairly well behaved on the tarmac too.

Other good MTs are Kuhmo KL71s, Insa Turbo Saharas and Maxxis (big horns i think). Unsure of prices on all of those.

They are generally the tyres me, my dad, scottie, dan, ralph, ferris and a few others run on.
Insa special tracks are good but i think they are a bit too savage for laning and road use.

Thanks jordi i was lookin at them after you commented last time what r they like off road do they do the job ok ?, i have 5 insta turbo saharas on 235/75/15 so would use one of them as a spare, i just didnt want to buy some n been the wrong type is 4x4 tyres the best place to buy from lyk , thanks mate

I rate them well, sure ralph has them on his LWB in 31s, think Andy bought some in 33s.

Great for laning, and yes i have spent a shit load on other stuff to make my Zuk more capable but even when i just had standard lift springs and the 33s they were good off road.

Yes it does, but so does everything at some point.

It also depends on the driver in a lot of situations. For a cheap tyre they are good. Just bought another one for my spare.

An ideal all rounder. If you are doing lots of demanding pay and play with real thick claggy mud something more aggressive might be an idea but if you need that kind of tyre on a greenlane you probably shouldn't be going down it.

4x4tyres always seems to be cheapest for them. Thats where i got all of mine.

Be very wary of some ebay sellers. My dad ordered some for another vehicle that never arrived and the seller dissapeared so ebay / paypal refunded.

Yea a didnt really want to buy off ebay cos full of dodge pots lyk lol pluss for a set of 4 of them gt ones they r more expensive so lol have u got any pics of yours on ya sj jordicos on the 4x4tyres they look abit more chunky that the ones on ebay thanks
