Nae worries! Things always end up reading how they are not meant to sound

I think thats cuz 80% of the time people do come of their bikes because they are riding too fast! I had a good bit of road rash a few years back, came off my BMX at about 30mph down a hill and skinned both my arms, everyone thought i came off a motorbike it was that bad.

it was like this all the way up to my elbows

and this was after they finally removed the bandages, about 2 weeks after it happened

Hello every one!

Im home, they let me come home for christmas day (on a sort of day release) and then yesterday I came home for good, I thought You might all like some updated pictures, I do apologise for the gruesome nature of the pictures (and i'm not on about my face!)

here is my left leg now,
Image

the plastic surgery dept are really pleased with my skin graft as its took well and they said the bolster stitches can come out on monday the 4th

Image

I'm getting stronger everyday and although i still can't move all my toes I feel better in myself, I can get around on crutchs and mostly look after myself, although whats really annoying is that i can make a cup of tea but i can't carry it into the living room with me!

although i'd love to show you pictures of my Puch (if youve followed my posts on this and other websites im sure you will know its my 1969 moped that i restored)I've not seen it since the accident, my parents say it didn't come off as badly as me and that most of the damage is to the leg shields and a dint in the petrol tank, I am slightly annoyed as for chritmas i had treated myself to a set of decals and an expensive hand pump to fit the original brackets on the frame.

As for the time in hospital, it was driving me mad, the same thing every day and i had about a week and a half of bed rest which had me climbing the walls, talking to the surgeons they have said i will have to have this fixator on for a year or so, I also have to go in for more surgeory january/febuary time where they will break my leg again and I will have to wind my fixator out 4times a day to get my bone to grow the 5.5 cm that i have lost through surgeory. After my fixator was fitted I was diagnosed with having a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot) in my lung unfortunaly it happens sometimes with surgeory concerning the legs or stomach, and as a consequence Im on warfarin for 6 months, which 'thins' my blood and hopefully removes the clot, but it may cause problems for my future surgeory,

this is me sitting on my ar*e as usual! don't worry it will be a regular thing for me for a while!
Image

Car wise I won't be able to drive a manual car until my fixator comes off (or until i prove i can) so my everyday car (astra) will be traded in for an automatic, and my sj will be on the back burner for a year at least, but on a posative for the sj, with all my motorbikes 'for sale' ill have some garage floor space and i should be able to squeeze the sj inside instead

any way thank you for the kind words every body, i'm sure now ive got lots of time on my hands ill be on here alot more than before

Luke

Welcome back mate! Glad you're doing well, I bet you're so happy to be out of hospital! I'm sure the year will fly past and you'll be up and moving about easily in no time. I think doctors always say it'll take longer than it actually will to heal from experience anyway!

Bet your glad to be home,, i was given the all clear just before xmas to start driving again,

i had my foot in plaster for six weeks, and i know exatly what you mean about the tea thing!!!. Like scott said, it soon flys by. And yes get rid of all them bikes, used to ride years ago, and i could see then motorcycles are just a accident waiting to happen,, mainly due to other road users. ive lost a couple of good mates due to bikes,

Happy new year to you and your wife,,
Andy

thank you happy new year to you too, and yes motorbikes, a thing of the past now, its hard to belive how much damage was done from so little speed, the woman just pulled out on me and it was far to late for me to do anything, its made me realise how dangerous motorcycles are. I always blamed accidents on the riders doing something wrong and that wasn't going to happen to me! after all i was a carefull rider and I didn't go tear arsing around like some mates of mine did! I was only going 30mph and she could have killed me, now i realise motorcycles arent worth the risk, quite a turning point in my life because ive lived and breathed motorcycles since i was 15.

thanks for the kind words,

Luke

Glad your ok mate, Ive lived and breathed motorbikes and jump bikes for many years, Me and My dad have built up quite a collection of them ranging from BSA Bantam's, to c15 Trials bikes, to Greeves to an A7 shooting star and an A10 police bike, but having seen your dreadful accident its kinda putting me off riding again

I may stick to trials riding, at least theres a soft surface to fall on and no stupid drivers around

take care mate

hey up guys, I thought I would update things again, nothing to much is new, I uploaded some more pictures so i'm going to post them, I know how you all like photo's!

this was when i was in hospital...

I do apologize for the landrover mags but most people think 4x4's are all the same, in fairness the magazine was interesting enough! as for the pick and mix, ment for me, buit i wasn't hungry, so most of the visitors had them!

then Ive seen my bike now, I'm gutted about it really, I spent a fortune restoring it!

I'm dead certain it will be a write off,

As for me, Things are getting better, I'm still off work but I'm hoping to go back soon, I'm waiting to have an operation to start lengthening my leg, but I cant do that until my skin graft heals, which I am still waiting on! I'm sleeping better too, and not using as many pain killers which is a bonus, I see my consultant at the end of march, I'm hoping to get copies of the xrays, then i can show what real damage has been done as you don't really see it from the outside!

Finally the last part of my rambling! I've got a new car, I traded my old astra in becuase the tax was due, I've been told i can drive an auto because its only my left leg that is damaged (which would be the clutch pedal for all you non-drivers out there) so I've got myself a smart car

Image

Its great, quite big inside and £35 per year road tax! the engine is the 599cc turbo with 6 speed gear box, and Its pretty nippy, Infact its changed me, I think I would like one of those 600cc SJ's that are imported from japan, I reckon the 600cc sj would be an awsome piece of kit, Who needs a big engine to have fun?

any wya some more smart pikkies

Hey, glad to see you're okay (kinda, not 6 feet under at least) get well soon. 8-)
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
