That and the 410... They do look identical, but technically they are different models... they didn't even make the SJ410 in 1981.
The started that in '82 in order to export it.
I suppose you could argue its the first European SJ...
as they never exported the SJ30s over here due to the law on how many parts had to be European.

But on the other hand you could argue that they are all Jimnys really anyway!
In Japan, LJs, SJs, Samurais, Jimnys, Vitaras... they are all Jimnys (vitara is "jimny wide")

I Read some where that they wanted to call them Jimmy s but the m got changed to an n - lost in translation or a mis-print, but it stuck and we ended up with the Jimny, I wonder what the translated version of the name is in Japanese because obviously jimmy isn't a Japanese name!

Good point, as twiss said they came in the early 80's I think the early ones not only had drum brakes but a T-box that resembled an LJ's with out a 4wd light switch, I'd love to know how many SJ's are on the road! does anyone have any mates that work in the dvla? It would be good to see how many are left!

Hey Ed,

I think your SJ is a Type 2, since you have disc brakes at the front, and your dash is the earlier one from the Type 3.

The Type 1 had your dashboard and drum brakes all round.
Dont take this for sure , a good suzuki nutter or someone in suzuki world knows for certain.

Dom in need of a :smokin:

just to get back on topic :D there is something i dont like about the new SJs and i took a while to realise what it was, but now i can see it

its the front end ,its not just the grill scotty, its the whole front. its NOT FLAT, its angled at the corners :S
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good
