This is such a dumb ass thread.
Two solutions
1) i had t/box in neutral and didn't notice
2) clutch was in back to front
I shall drink myself clever.

I nearly did it once. I triple check since. Like walking through an airport checking you have your passport every 30 secs!

I thought nothing of it when i put it back together.
I'm just pleased it all went back together ok and i wasn't struggling to get the box back onto the engine. Don't think 2hrs was too bad start to finish.
I'm off to Andys tomorrow for some panels for it too. My front end is just too bent. When i unbolted it it all sprang apart and now it won't go back together

I don't know what was dumber. The clutch or wondering why it wouldn't go in neutral.
