I'd mount the intercooler behind the rad, or possibly move the number plate and cut a hole in the bumper, or you could just not have it in at all.

It cools the air going into the engine so you get a little more power. You can do without it.

no chance of sitting behind the rad and ive got 2 electric fans cooling the 200tdi rad at the front. argh i just wanna get offroad lol. you can do without it? surely it wouldnt be there if you did not need it?

As I said, intercoolers cool the air going through them. Cooler air is more dense so when you heat it up (i.e. when the engine fires) it expands more, forcing the piston down harder.

If you do away with it you'll just not get the same peak power. In an offroader intercoolers don't help much anyway because you're not moving very fast. A cold air intake would serve you better.

Having had a closer look at your avatar photo, your snorkel does half the job of a cold air intake. It's taking air from outside the engine bay. Under the bonnet you want to keep the ducting as short as possible and away from hot areas, like the exhaust, as much as possible.

just like to say I cured all over heating problems :) 200tdi rad did the job for me with digital thermostat. the cooler fitter behind the passenger side front light with a scoop :)
