Birdman sounds like its 180 out - try moving the leads so number 4 becomes number 1 - ie firing order 1432 but use the cylinder nearest the bulkhead as number one.

I would have said go back to basics and check and if required reset the timing to how it should be then try that, after you have that possible problem sorted out then go through the other basic things like fuel etc.

Rather than just try bodge attempts like change the distributor and all the leads around to other firing patterns,No1 problem must be the timing then fuel and then if that does not work then it must be on the electric side process of elimination.

You will end up getting so frustrated fannying about with various half hearted attemps, you will end up possibly torching it.

If it was mine, going back to basics would be the 1st priority.

Right going to attempt to re-set the timing from scratch. Going to take the belt off turn the crank until number one piston is at TDC and then turn the cam until both intake and exhaust valves are closed for number cylinder. Then make sure the rotor arm is pointing in the right position if not take it out turn it till it is and bob it back on. Job done. Is this correct, is this how to do it properly ?

The valve timing should be set to no4 TDC, the ignition timing is set to no1. Its worth checking that TDC is where the crank pulley says it is.

I think I'm 180 degrees out on the cam timing, so I wipped the belt off and tried turning the cam using the cam sprocket bolt clockwise, the bugger doesn't move !!! Doesn't want to budge at all !!! Is this normal, should be should it ? :S

Sounds like you have some of the pistons in the up position and you are trying turning the camshaft over which is possible hitting the pistons,of course i could be wrong, never stripped a Suzuki engine down before but that is more than likely the problem of why it wont turn over.

Dont try and turning over anymore or use the starter motor or anything as you could do further damage, not saying this is what has happened but sounds very possible.

I'm sure it has been said that your engine isn't an interference type, so you should be ok.

Turning a camshaft over is surprisingly hard. It will turn though.

If its an 8V then the valves won't hit the pistons.

Hmmm.. Shall I put more pressure on the ratchet do you think ? Just didn't want to force it and do any damage.
