This has needed updating for quite a while so here goes.
Finished building up the 5.125 ratio ring and pinions onto a SJ case and into a steel SJ carrier.
Made a spacer from the old Vitara case so the diff case would sit centrally again.
Found an interesting way of checking the pinion preload with weighed bottles of water hanging from the flange in a carrier bag.
Ready to play
Once that was built up for the front to match the ARB I had for the rear I got myself a high output compressor and mounted that right up under the top of the dash out of harms way. The plate its fitted to is actually attached to the back side of the bonnet hinge bolts so couldn't be much higher.
Then moved on to the MOT prep which got worse with every turn and I ended up changing most bearings and seals on both axles and sorting both props while I had them apart to fit the diffs.
Fitted the rocklobster and x-eng at the same time but photos of that are pretty pointless as it looks much the same as any other setup.
Gearing on the road is rather low. I could have done with some ear defenders on the way to Wagtail really. On the redline in 5th at 70 mph with the cherry bomb, tyre noise, and wind noise is rather overwhelming.
Well worth it for the offroad gearing but in the future i may try pick up a 4.8 or 4.6 ratio Vit diff to try if it all gets a bit too much on the road.
The ARB is probably the best toy I've ever owned... apart from the truck as a whole obviously
The low ratio crawl is nice and slow and controlled and it will climb and decend quite a steep hills in a very controlled manner at tickover
