why not cut another inch out.

that will then allow you to run even taller tyres in the future without having to re mod them.

have a look what i have just done on d86 to get what i mean...

Too late for that now. Its all tacked back together, just gotta put a couple of plates in behind where the head lights are then its sorted. Apart from bashing the bent bits roughly back into shape. The arch extensions are 4.5inches and just come out to the edge of the tread. Once i edge them they will be just short of the tyre wall, which i've been led to believe is 100% legal

Started her up this morning and pulled her out of the garage to check everything was tickety, seems ok no fouling, brakes work. Although despite being a new handbrake cable it seems too long and wont go tights so I may have to adjust that at some point.

Those rims look far too shiney. Get some mud and sawdust on 'em

Chopped a bit more off and shaped the wings. Its looking good so far. Aiming to hav it ready for Mad Frickley in June.

Thats it for the weekend i think now. Next weekend i'm gona try n get the fuel tank mounted and replace all the fuel lines. I still have a few small holes in the body work to patch. Other than that i think its a matter of going round with the grinder and tidying up some edges and a few bits to weld up properly.

Rear wings
All lights & horn to fit
Tidy up welds / plating

Not sure how i'm gona do the exhaust. It wont pass MOT without it and technically i can't drive it to the exhaust place without MOT. If i go for an MOT and fail due to no exhaust, does that then allow me to drive to the exhaust place to have one fitted for a re-test?

Doesn't look like much does it. So why do i still just have a garage full of bits? It's all sat together all the bits to go on are loosely bolted in place and yet i still seem to have various body panels and spare bits sat around.

Those arches are looking smart. Nice one.

As for the dirty tube, I'd say you have two options. Risk driving it to the exhaust place (take backroads etc.) or use your other wagon , grab a friend and tow it.

What sort of exhaust are you having fitted?

Could you put you old one back on for the MOT?

What old one. I keep meaning to take a photo of the piles of rust i keep accumulating. Everything from the first small silencer has gone. I never cut it off, it hasnt been removed to make work easier. I just swept it up and binned it.

All things going to plan I'm going for a powerflow stainless stack behind the cab. I've had them on cars before and pretty much the best exhaust i've had, custom built to my specs in s/s with a lifetime guarantee. It'll be pricey but I want the job doing right. I've seen some home brew jobs and its a crime against off roading the way some people do it.
