They have probably been trying to get it running and starting and stopping it a lot.
This can overheat the starter and stop it from working for an hour or so... well, my starter motor does this anyway!
Whereabouts are you? Im sure one of our friendly members could bring a timing gun and help you out!

the owner had the AA come out to check, and they said it's the timing out. He's tried to put it right but doesn't have the correct equipment to check, so if there was anyone to lend a hand that would be great!

The car is currently in Isleworth, they're taking it back to the garage to 'fix', but after the garage taking over an hour and half the first time, and managing to do it all wrong, i'm not sure what the outcome will be.

This 'garage' sounds like they shouldn't be working on cars if they can't do something as simple as changing an O-ring then putting the distributor back in the correct position and setting the timing :shock:

Is the starter motor actually spinning the engine? if not hook up some jump leads to see if they have just flattened the battery.

If I was closer I would happily come take a look for you but i'm down in wiltshire :thumbdown:
