Well after reading up a bit, Im going to check my float level, the small fuel filter in the carb and check the jets for any cr*p inside and clean it out and try again.

Just had the top off and there was a fair bit of dirt in the float bowl. I removed the 2 jets in there and blew them through, there was a bit partially blocking one. I also blew through the other jets.

Also I noticed the pin holding my float on was really loose and had nothing to stop it falling out, and also there is a thin brass tube, about 3mm thick coming vertically down into the float bowl, what's this? It was bent whatever it was.

Tried it quickly after this and its much the same with the same amount of fuel dribbling in. I screwed the idle mixture screw RIGHT IN (full lean)to its stop and still ran the same with the same amount of fuel still dribbling in. Somethings definitely wrong here!

If I hold the choke plates almost closed it picks up and sounds smoother but revving pretty high.

Not had a chance to measure float level yet so will do tomorrow.
What can I try next?

All and any answers welcome right now! :)

Not replied before because I know what a pig it can be to find a fault like this. I'm still running the original carb and the only time I've had an issue with it not ticking over turned out to be the intake manifold gasket leaking. However if you kept the accelerator down a little it would still keep running if only a little rough. A crude but affective way to check this is to keep the accelerator down enough to keep it running then spray brake and clutch cleaner around the intake manifold. If there is a leak it will suck the cleaner in and the revs will go up. I know it's a long shot, but you must be getting fed up with it by now :S .
Also found this, may be some help.

I'll give that a go, hopefully I can get some cleaner tomorrow!

Now as I understand it the aux venturi (the bit that the fuel is dribbling from) should use the air flow to draw emulsified fuel through, which should be alot finer than the puddles that are currently coming through.
Could this be a problem with something before the aux venturi or not enough air flow/vacuum? Its just strange how its suddenly happened but was fine before the P&P. I guess I need to compression test and check the timing but the fact that it runs better as soon as the choke is pulled and revs raised makes me think that timing and compression arent to blame.

Well what have we here???

:)

Took all the jets out etc and blasted carb cleaner through them all, and all the passages and cleaned the crud out of the float bowl and fired her up. It still ran a little rough to start with and I still noticed it dribbling fuel in again, but I let it get up to temp and then adjusted the mixture screw and brought the idle back down to around 900rpm and its ticking over hunky dory and the fuel dribbling seems to have stopped so fingers crossed it stays that way!
Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated
