Is it where the leather/fabric strap for the doors to stop them fully opening attaches?

I was just driving along in mine, and wishing I had sun visors fitted. Then spotted what I think this is.

Just a couple of random holes along the top of the screen surround?

I've had a think about the purpose. It might be to do with the little bonnet stays which are in front of the screen.
