its finished! kind of...

it took me 2 days, a well equip workshop and a fleet of mechanics... it was a lot more effort than most make it out to be.

you where right jordi, the least time consuming method of doing the engine mount was to drill a new hole in the chassis mount bit, but i wasnt about to take the engine back out again! so i came up with a less peasfull solution by using the peice of kit pictured bellow.

made a fairly neat job of it.

i was also very confused about how to wire up the vitara alternator, but lucky enough i had someone there who knew exactly what he was doing, i dont really understand how he made it work but im thankfull:)

but the one thing that got us all stumped was the starter motor. its getting a 12v feed from the wire when the key is turned and all the lights dim, but nothing happens at all. although if you bridge a bit of wire from the battery straight to the tab on the solenoid it turns over and fires up. no one really had an answer for that, its very strange.

im sure it is what you think it is. it makes lots of noise and sparks and flames and melts metal precisely. it also made a rather neat hole.

tips: well there pretty straight forward actually, just like welding you need to know what setting is best suited for the job, that just comes with practice really. the slower you move the torch the cleaner the cut will be and you wont have to go over it again. but most importantly always remember to connect the airline, or else it will weld the tip to the job. our apprentice found out the hard way when using my mates, and apparently couldn't replace the tips on his, oops!

as for performance i haven't noticed much difference at the moment to be honest:( but! i havnt adjusted the carb for the new engine yet, so i assume if its still set up for a 1.3L than it will run like a 1.3L. i bet it will be much more torquey off road but should i get a lot more speed from it?

oh wait. just found a timing light and set the timing properly.

yep, it shifts!!

its really torquey low down and picks up well, what a noise aswell! but wasnt very impressed with the top end speed, it starts to strugle when it gets to 50 which isnt great. so what can i do to improve that?

also the sump hits the axle when i go over a bump:( will the samurai sump bolt on? will it make a difference?
