Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying a Jimny at the moment.

My SJ runs 31's and I'd like the same size tyres on a Jimny if I get one.

From looking around online it seems there are mixed opinions on what tyre sizes can be sensibly fitted, with some people claiming that 31's are too big and others claiming 33's are easily run on standard axles.

Anyway, I thought I'd ask the question.

What tyre sizes are you guys running on your Jimnys and what modifications did you have to do to accommodate them?

Think for 31s your looking at serious work. Trotter will probably know a bit.

On the son in laws hes got a rays 2"lift and my 31s wouldn't fit

I know a chap that runs 29" 235/75/15 and he has like a 4" lift and he says that he is not going any bigger than 29" as you start breaking shafts ect as jimnys arnt as strong as sjs o

I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has fitted 31's and how they've got on with it.

If I go and look at these Jimnys, I want to check that they've done the correct mods to accommodate the wheels/tyres they've fitted.

You will be alright on road with 31" I think mate but as soon as you go off-road and start doing rough lanes you will break shafts but I may be. Wrong

Yeah my concern is the strength of the half shafts. However, I do have a rocklobster box I can fit and I generally drive my truck carefully rather than thrashing it flat out over everything.

To be honest I'm finding it hard to find any comments online from people who have either a) run 31s themselves or b) have the faintest idea what they're talking about (not on this forum obviously )

i agree with scottie , i have a frend with a bone stock jimny that broke a rear drive shaft
he now runs on samurai drive shafts

If you thrash it around like a mong then you're going to break it however you mod it.
