Is there a way to reduce piston slap on sj413...apart from from a possible rebore........
start up noise then dies right down after a few miles when engine warms up
mileage 90 thousand......using correct grade of oil......hesitate to use a thicker oil as some of the clearances on engine are close...................noticed if i depart from the correct ignition timing the rattle is reduced on start up....(retarding)
No blue smoke at all, uses very little oil

If the engine is working fine after warm up why worry about major engine work,if you are not burning any oil or have any other major issues then just stick a can of STP oil additive in the engine this will prolong the life of it and also it should cure that piston slap on fire up.

It makes the oil stick to the engine componets better on start up so reducing the piston slap,i have always used in in all my cars old and new and i am dead certain its prolonged the life and makes it run smoother including diesels.

If it aint broke dont fix it.
