When I brake hard at around 50mph I get a bit of brake judder

This used to be very vicious at about 70 so I had my brakes checked over and new disks and pads fitted, the guy at the garage said there is a bit of slop in the steering which is probably the steering damper or just the fact the GV moves sideways a bit in the wind but not that bad...

It didn't used to do it after the brakes were done but it seems to be doing it now they've bedded in

Have you checked the wheel nuts are torqued down?

Yup the nuts were torqued up by the garage, forgot to add I am running 32mm wheel spacers..

If you have been doni a lot of hard braking at high speeds then you might have warped the discs.

A worn steering damper should not put slip into the steering in fact does a GV even have a steering damper?? Don't remember mine having one?

The wheel nuts might be tight, but it could be the nuts holding the spacers on.

If they aren't tightened up progessively, then they can be eccentric when tight, but then come loose through use. This happened to my son, and a wheel came off.

The pain is you need to take the wheels off to check.

Better than the potential consequences though.

What spacers have you got on? I've got the cheap graystone ones but I quite like them as it's not physically possible for the spacer bolts to turn round

I have the graystone spacers that lock the extender studs in place, so as you say it's not possible for them to come undone, when I brake normally its fine, but when I have to brake hard on a motorway when people decide to slam on for no aparent reason thats when I feel it, not sure if it has a steering damper myself to be honest I didn't think it did, will have a quick look over it but I don't think there is anything wrong with the steering at all

Wheel bearings? Have you changed the steering wheel? Bolt could be loose. Check the shocks are bolted up tight too. Basically anything that connects the steering wheel to the front end, check it all.

Yer I will get under it tomorrow and check it all over, would like to remove, pait and refit as much as I can, think it's had a life close to the sea as there is a lot of surface rust on the bottom of it so will have to get that cleaned up and painted, there is also a loose knocking sound coming from the back right hand corner, checked the shock bushes and they aren't that bad, definitely could do with a set if ramps to get under it
