another one on the road

Post by roadrunner » Fri Jul 25, 2014 8:28 pm

hello everyone , im luke and my truck 'roadrunner' a 1990 sj410 are finally on the road after just passing my license , its a really big difference going from a ford fiesta to an sj with no power steering or power assisted brakes but its all good fun tho.

Image

i would like a bit of help tho with it because after 2 weeks for driving it , i think the carb has gone because there is fuel coming out the air box and the car refuses to run not that i would drive it in that state.

i have had a lot of problems with the carb having changing it and buying a rebuild kit , its an aisin carb , is there an alternative to the aisin carb because i don't really want to put another on in because personally i think they are rubbish.

many thanks
luke

Welcome to the forum matey, looks like a nice 410.

That's a new one? The aisin side draught carbs are normally super reliable and brilliant little carbs, with 410s I always keep the stock carb because of how good they are.

Only reason I can see that it's pouring fuel out the inlet is a stuck float or possibly a blocked fuel return line??

Are you running the stock mechanical pump?

Easiest swap is a hif38 SU carb. It's almost bolt on, just need to oval the mounting holes.

What pressure is the pump?? I'm wondering if it could have started supplying too much pressure, could always try an inline pressure regulator.

Think there's a guide in the "how to guides" section ^^ up there^^ But that's using an adapter kit that's not really needed.

You can literally just oval the holes on the inlet to bolt it up and for best performance port match the inlet to the carb.

Edweird on here runs one, have a look at his build thread.

If it was running ok then just started doing it, whip the float out and have a look at it ...only 3 screws so it doesn't take long.

Welcome.

Nice looking Zook.

I have no experience with 410 carb faults as the one I had served me perfectly. If you don't want to mess around putting a SU on it then I wouldn't hesitate to just fit another standard carb. Great little engine and carb the 410's have.
