Morning chaps, I decided to go down the 1.6 8v conversion route from the standard 1.0L. I'm nearly there but as my SJ is and early model before 1984 I am in the process of making a gearbox mount to lift it up as the distributor will touching the bulkhead otherwise. Now before I bolt everything together could anyone please tell me how much distance between the distributor and bulkhead there should be as I'm not sure if I have to higher it a tad more. Pictures would be appreciated. Many thanks, Eddie :D

Cheers Twiss. Would you say this is too close or should I have more clearance ? I can make more if needed just means more faffing around, ha ! As you can see it's ruined my lovely freshly sprayed bulkhead, going to have to patch it up now

It does get quite close. you haven't mounted the engine slightly too high have you?

Well at first I thought I had but the center of the oil filter does line up with the top of the chassis rail which I read somewhere, I think it was one of your threads Scottie. So far I have put a 5mm piece of steel under the gearbox mount to lift it and that picture is what is it like now. Will this be ok ? Also while I'm here, does anyone know the thread size of the nuts that hold the fan on by any chance :)

That looks alright... the engine shouldn't really move front to back anyway, only side to side a bit due to flex in the rubber engine mounts
Im using a heavy duty (aka massive) gearbox mount which lifts it up quite high anyway.

As for the fan, bin it and go electric!!!

Sound ! In that case I shall leave it where it is :) Ha, I'm planning to in the future once it's on the road but I'm going to make do without for now just so I can get on the road :)
