Have wanted an sj/jimny for far too many years so finally bit the bullet and bought a 04 jimny albeit in need of a few gearbox bearings.
Said jimny has covered 16 k miles (with very little gearbox oil) still on original tyres, plenty of scuffs to the paint, but everything else seems ok.
Was intending to keep almost standard except for tyres but must admit that compressor operated locking diff sounds very appealing(just hoping it is too complex to fit! )

Thanks for the welcome guys, appreciated.
Changed the gbox oil in a hope to quiet it down a bit and drained out only about 200ml.
Bought a large syringe type thing from machinemart but the tube wouldn't enter the filler hole, not to mention I couldn't get it to suck up any oil.
Eventually managed to squeeze in 1200ml using a 20ml syringe and some windscreen washer tube ( took quite a while )
Still very noisy, but hopefully i should be able to drive it for a few miles while I consider gearbox options
Don't know why , but I was surprised at just how much is "going on" underneath a jimny

Welcome.
The syringes don't suck up. You unscrew the top and fill them with oil.
