Suzuki Swift intermittent starting problem.

Hello all. I have a 1990 1 litre hatchback Swift that has a problem with starting. Sometimes it will run fine for a few miles, then I'll switch off the ignition for a while, and when I come to start it again it turns over but wont fire up. A friend of mine reckons its an issue with a dodgy fuel pump. I have located a new one on ebay but am reluctant to pay over a hundred quid for it in case the problem could lie elsewhere. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, this is predominantly a 4x4 forum but all suzuki owners are welcome.

An engines an engine. Do you know which engine is in it and is it carb or injection?

Before you buy any parts you need to do a few checks. Engines need 3 things to run. Fuel, ignition, compression. Check these things are all present.

I had a similar problem once and it was a knackered coil.

If it is the fuel pump I'm sure you can get one somewhere for under a hundred quid.

I've had this problem once or twice with my Yaris. Eventually I worked out it was the immobiliser not talking to the key properly, and taking the key out of the ignition and putting it back in solved the problem.
