J20a idling rough then cutting out...
on monday i started it up and it ran but was idling rough, then after a few minutes it was fine again, idling smoothly as normal, this was the day i dropped it off at the garage for its new timing chain kit..
i went and got it today and it was idling very rough, i drove home the long way to give it a bit of a run hoping it would smoothen out, but as i got near my house and pulled up to some traffic lights it idled rough then cut out, now it wont idle at all, i try to start it and it runs really rough for a couple of seconds and cuts out, if i rev it it will run until i stop revving it then it dies
they told me it hasnt had a service in a long time as everything was smothered in black sludge, they said that the sludge may have gone into the inlet through the breather and be causing problems there, so they said to clean the TPS
i phoned them after finding that i had to push it to park it as it wouldnt run and theyre coming out in the morning to have a look at it, so tomorrow i plan to change the spark plugs and clean some sensors...
anyone know any resistance reading for and of the intake sensors so i can test them?
or does anyone know of any common faults that can be easily fixed?
i am going to check all the vacuum hoses to see if any are split or not connected...
the engine runs sweet at revs higher than 1500rpm, runs a little rough but not that bad between 1000 and 1500rpm but below 1000 its really rough...

Maybe they fitted the chain wrong and the timing is out...bit of a coincidence huh?

well it started idling rough on monday before i took it to the garage, but now its got worse, will see in the morning, they are coming to see what they can do with it..
its fine when im driving along, but when i stopped and then try to pull away it had no go at all, then after i left it for 5 minutes it wouldnt idle at all...

Need to get a code reader on it really. I expect that's the first thing they will do.
Rather than give you individual component information, it's probably easier to download the full workshop manual.

I have a disk with all the manuals in it and all the diagnostics codes so I'll be able to look it up if they do have the machine, hopefully they do as that will make it a lot easier

The guys from the garage came and picked it up this morning, plugged diagnostics in and it is the Idle Air Control Valve, ordered one from suzuki and fitting it tomorrow hopefully, the guys said they will clear the codes from the ECU for me as well
The previous owner, not mentioning any names but a car sales from holywell had bodged the engine light so it looked fine but wasn't working, so with that changed I now have a warning light on...

That's one of the reasons I would never buy a car from a second hand car dealer!
Having a father who's been in the motor trade all his life I've heard many stories and all they want to do is make a good profit and will take shortcuts to make the over priced cars seem better than they actually are. Not to mention lie through their teeth!

Yer I'll never buy a car from a second hand dealer again, had a phone call from suzuki saying they have the part in now, so as soon as I get back from work I'll be getting a taxi to go get it, GV drives too dodgey at the moment with it wanting to go all the time and the ECU seems confused as its trying to figure out what's going on, when driving the revs keep rising and falling, only used it to drive to work about 3 miles

I took the GV to the garage today and had the new IAC valve fitted, they cleared the codes from the ECU and the light went out, the engine idles almost perfectly but with a little vibration, but does hesitate when accelerating, and won't go at all when in drive, seems like a misfire, they are going to fit two new lambda sensors tomorrow and a set of spark plugs, that will then clear the codes on the ECU completely and hopefully it'll run sweet again...
The cause of all these problems? The black gundge and oil that has been in the engine going through the pcv into the inlet manifold, when I've been parking it in the sloped street the oil has then ran down into the IAC slot in the throttle body then causing it to get clogged, theory is the engine burning the dirty oil from the pcv has been leaving heavy carbon deposits on the plugs and lambda sensors, causing them to fail, all seems to make sense to me now, hopefully that's the problem and tomorrow morning, fingers crossed I get a phone call saying it's all running smooth again...
Been a very expensive week :/
