Re-Tuning Carb After Fitting Snorkel?

Ok, so i haven't actually fitted a snorkel yet. Just re possitioned the air box to the other side of the engine bay, ready to go through the bulkhead. I have used 63mm tube and a universal in line air filter. Since doing this it hasn't been running right. Its fine if i accelerate slowly but if i put my foot down it just boggs down.

I'v have adjusted the carb to make it richer and this has improved things slightly, but im a bit reluctant to just keep making it richer because it was running fine before.

Has anyone els had to re tune there carb after fitting a snorkel?

(its a 1.6 with su carb)

I'm guessing you would, as the additional pipe work will affect the airflow. I would think it's just like tuning a multiple carburettor system, after tuning one, you have to adjust the whole lot. Anyways, that's just my humble uneducated thinking

I found that when I put a snorkel that was too small/borderline on the carb did need retuning as it restricted airflow.... when I moved up to a much larger pipe, it didn't make any difference

What size pipe does everyone use for the home made Snorkels?

I usually use around 80mm for the 1.6

I was using 45mm and it was just about OK for the 1.3 but noticeably too small for the 1.6...
My snorkel is now about 75mm and seemed to work OK... but its currently on a shelf ;)

I think iv solved the problem. Just put some thicker oil in the dash pot and it seems to be running better. We will see for sure when i drve it to work tomorrow.

Heres a picture of what i have done so far..... bit over the top i know

Looks good!
Sorry to nitpick though but isn't the hot air coming off the radiator going to heat up that pipe a bit and thus heat up your intake air?
Probably not so much of a problem when you are driving on road, but going slowly off road when the engine is at its warmest, you don't really want to be heating up the air going into it as well

I think I would have moved the battery over to the other side, that's a lot of pipe work.
