Personally I like them cut down a bit lower

Agreed.
I keep thinking of making a pair for summer, and I'd go for the lower look too, I'd make them removable for the real open air feel.

I'm gonna tweak mine some more, add a cup holder and some proper storage pockets, might graft an eternal door handle into them as well.
When they are that low it makes the cab feel really open, but you still feel safe and that you aren't going to loose stuff out the door. Tight scratchy lanes are interesting though

When I did our rally car doors, I took a jigsaw to the door inners, and sawed within about 20mm all around. They became very twisty and flexible, but that didn't matter due to the cage, and door bars.
I then took all the guts out as we had perspex windows. I then pop riveted aluminium sheet across the bottom, coming up the door about 150mm. This gave deep pockets for maps, road book etc... plus some where to clip pencils etc.
It also removed about 7 kg per door, mainly due to the glass removal.

Mine have had loads of material removed and are super floppy at the moment

they weigh hardly anything though. Doesn't bother be about them wobbling about as I have the rocksliders to protect from side impacts.

I have some plastic doors for the LJ...but I prefer the no door look in summer. Or any day when there's no sodding rain..

I'm sure Karis would have agreed with that one!
They also don't offer much protection from sunburn
