Revving engine

Hi guys, 54 plate 2.0 gv. When pressing the clutch pedal to change gear the engine revs up for several seconds before settling down. This happens when the engine is cold and is fine when warm. Any thoughts ? Thanks.

Check the grounds on the motor, sometimes when you get a bad earth it ends up earthing through the clutch cable.

I have the same problem on my 2lt gv. Although I can't see it having a earth problem through the clutch cable as they are hydraulic. I think it must be more to do with how the engine starts when cold or the throttle position sensor. Have you had any work done on the vehicle recently, mine seems to have started after I had the head off after timing chain snapped. Trouble is after doing work like that you tend to notice all sorts of things so it could have been doing for sometime.

Are you certain that the hydraulic fluid is not conductive? Many oils are not 100% insulators, and in fact can be relatively good conductors if contaminated. The conductivity could also change depending upon temperature, theoretically.

Thanks for the replies fellas, I've had no work done on the car, so it may be just a cold engine issue. As I said before, the engine runs fine once warmed up so I think I will just live with it.

Well, I don't know anything about GV's, what you describe might be normal.

I`ve got a similar problem.2.0 GV.Hot or cold, pull away in first, dip the clutch, firstly the revs drop to about 1400 then for 3 seconds or so climb back up to 1800 revs before falling away to 900.This makes changing into second a real pain.
