Further to my post about my brakes on my 03 Grand Vitara can I just confirm that when I jack up, placing an axle stand under the chassis next to the jacking point will be ok....... As I'm doing both fronts in an ideal world I,d put both sides on stands at once but I don't think Im that brave........... am I.....

Why wouldn't that be OK? How far back is that point?
I've had 4 axle stands under and no wheels on my SJ a few times.

Its ok.. I have a 'know it all' friend who was saying that I couldn't rest axle stands near the jack.. and gave me some clearly bull explanation of excessive direct pressure.. I didn't believe him, but wanted to run it by you guys.
As for putting both wheels up at once, one side doesn't daunt me, I think its the sacking the 2nd side up once the one side is on the axle stand....

The pressure on an axle stand (or the chassis) will either be 100% of the vehicles weight, or shared with the Jack right down to 0%.
As long as it's under a chassis rail or a jacking point designed to take the vehicles weight, there's no way I can see that it could cause a problem.
You can't double the vehicles weight on a particular point by sharing a load.
Sounds like someone might not have been paying attention in physics class.
