Hi everyone, i have just got my first suzuki a grand vitara xl-7 2.0td. I would like to get it chipped and have seen plenty of options to do it but would like the opinions of you guys of what is the best option/manufactuer to go for, i just would like a bit more torque especially in the lower gears.
Many thanks in advance
Neil

The XL-7 will be my next 4x4 but prefer the 2.7 V6 option although heavier on juice but as i dont do much miles per week it makes sense to go for the larger engine, the way that i look at it the XL is a big old bus and with just a 2lt TD engine to pull it along the engine it could well do with a chip upgrade.

When i take into account what mileage i do and also the vast difference in cost of buying diesel fuel and the initial high purchase price that a TD motor commands i cannot see any real advantage at the end of the day of going down the Diesel route.

I guess if you ask the specialist chip upgrade folks what you are looking at achieving from the engine they would be the best folks to advice you, once again these chips are not cheap, yes they will give you more torque but at a price. If you are going to use it for towing alot then the chip upgrade could make alot of sense but i doubt that in the long run it will save you alot on your annual fuel bill.

Keep us updated on how you get on,will be especially interested in your opinion in how the XL-7 performs and how reliable it is,i have a 2.0ltr V6 Vitara of the old shape but the reliability from this motor is one of the best motors that i have ever had.The V6 engine is just a pure delight to drive in manual format, not sure about the auto version.

Good luck with your new motor.

Cheers for the reply, i nearly went for a v6 but i found a 1 owner 80,000 full history gem that drives like new so had to have it.
But i have to say after a week of driving it i'm impressed with its economy i'm guessing its doing around 40mpg
