Exhaust welding

So MOT is next week and the only thing I have left on the list to do is the exhaust. Now I went to drop the exhaust down last night in order to to weld up a suspected hole but it turns out that it's the gasket on the front of the cat that is leaking. I was planning on dropping it down and Mali g good a repair with a new gasket but alas in true exhaust bolt fashion I sheered off one of the bolts. Now my question is whether I can just weld the coupling together and permanently join them. I also wanna do it at the rear of the cat section to. My thoughts are that the exhaust is pretty knackered anyway and can't afford to replace all of it so this will see me through to more prosperous time and a replacement system. Cheers

Which bolt did you break off?
Could you not drill it out and bolt through?
Or weld a different flange onto it?

To answer the weld question. Yes you could just weld it all up.
