Is this a problem?

A few of you might know that I did the timing and colourtuned my SJ last year after I struggled to meet emissions on the MOT.

This year, I got this:

Now, initially I was quite happy with that, but Hilux Scottie told me I must be running too lean, and I'm risking burning my piston tops.

That's what the colourtune looked like.

Anyone think I'm running too lean?

Does it start well? Tick over well? Run well? Pull when you put your foot down?

It starts on the button, it idles a little high (1200rpm) when warm (had to set it like that or it won't idle when cold), it runs lovely, pulls lovely for a 1.3. I'm really very happy with it, but he's now got me paranoid about ruining the engine...

I was well happy with it. Now I'm wondering if I'm running too lean? Could I be burning my pistons?

As long as it's running well. I found my 1.6 on an SU to be very low emissions too.

I don't go for colourtune or anything fancy. It's all setup by eye / sound.

If it was too lean it would tick over badly / lumpy and certainly not at 1200RPM. I don't rev that high crawling round off road.

It should happily tickover at 850-900rpm when tuned correctly.

Presume you have the choke set up for cold start ups?

Yes, I should turn the tick over down as the reason I tuned it to tick over so high was that I didn't have a choke. I fitted one but never got around to turning the idle down...

My emissions on P3 (the vit) were so low the guy checked the machine on a car he had just tested to make sure it was ok. She runs perfectly and loves to be caned a bit. So I'd say fret not!
