A quickm question please: Spanish build Sami, a supplier told me the left and right cylinders have different part numbers and he only had one side in stock. Are these cylinders handed as I have seen other suppliers just listing one item?? Appreciate some expertise on this, many thanks

I guess they might not bleed properly if the nipples aren't at the highest point.

I ditched rear drums so long ago I can't remember where the cylinders sit.

Your not alone on trying to identify cylinder types.........

Suzuki fitted quite a few different types over the years.
First I would check what pipework goes to each cylinder IE pipe in / pipe out or pipe in and bleed nipple.
The Spanish and Japanese use different backplates to the best of my knowledge, so it's worth checking the cutout.

The Spanish model is also inverted on some, so this needs to be noted as well.

When you've checked these hopefully we can determine what you have/need.

Obviously taking the drum off and looking/measuring is best, but who wants to do that ;)

thanks Darrell, appreciate the pics n all
Have an MOT failure on me hands here, so will have to get down inside tomorrow and have a proper look...that and the emissions too high (and a few odds n sods too). Emissions is down to SU tuning, am going to do it the Burlen way, starting max lean and then 2.5 turns out, but get it on their machine I suppose. Here comes fun!!

You can see just by looking at the backplate, but it doesn't confirm the size and you will need new shoes if the oils contaminated them.

Discs later maybe Twiss, but a slightly bigger job than I have in mind just now... legal first, better later ;)

p.s. just recently thrown my Aisin carb at that dog, he'll be getting pissed off.

those pics were invaluable Darrell. Mine is the Spanish as shown with cylinder at bottom. Bleed nipples are placed in lower position but I'm guessing the brake line and nipple are interchangable as the hole threads look the same. I've ordered cylinders and pads and I'm hoping they are right but they look right. Brake fluid all over the off-side pads... might explain the occasional drama under heavy braking (a bit crab-wise). Will get pics when new bits arrive. Thanks Darrell, very helpful stuff.

I assume this lower cylinder would be correct for your set up ?
I don't believe the bleed nipple fits either hole.

I have 2 on the way but cannot be totally certain they are right, mount holes and ports are in right place, but probably not that simple. Who is the supplier above please - price looks brilliant!!
