Jimny Clutch.

I bought a Jimny for my wife a few months ago and the clutch seems very heavy. It had a new clutch fitted last year so now I'm thinking of changing the cable but before I do, wandered if this is a common fault or do they all just have heavy clutches ?

Its not a heavy clutch but it is quite different to many modern hydraulic clutches. Check the cable routing, if its got too tight a bend on it somewhere then it will feel heavy.

Following on from Rhinoman, I found that my throttle was sticking wide open, and the pedal felt heavy. I made a tiny "cup" out of bluetac and card to go around one end, filled it with sewing machine oil, and then worked the cable in and out until sewing machine oil started to seep out of the other end.

It's been silky ever since.

Same thing with my handbrake cable.

Just to confirm, it was the clutch cable. The MOT Station I use were convinced the new clutch hadn't been assembled properly which put some doubt in my mind but as I could get a new cable quite cheap on eBay, decided to replace it. It has completely transformed the gear changing and is a pleasure to drive now !!

The problem with the Jimny clutches are the cable is open to the elements!

After driving / being towed through a deep water trough my clutch has become quite sticky!

I think the SJ is the same, although impregnating the cable with sewing machine oil has kept it nice and smooth even after swimming in thick mud...
