Water temperature + stalling

I have a 1.6 16v Vitara, which sometimes, when the engine is warm it doesn't keep the idle. It dies. It doesn't happen every time and I could not work out a pattern. After it acts out, if you keep running it, the symptoms disappear, only to come back later. Has anybody else encountered this issue? How did you fix it?

And another thing, whenever I put my foot on the gas, the water temperature indicator goes to zero, as soon as I lift off it comes back to the normal indication. Any ideas? I am guessing it is an electrical gremlin with the temp sensor.

Sounds like a grounding issue, does the starter spin up OK?

Yes it does, it starts without any issues, and it runs as well. Just from time to time it starts acting out.

The temperature thing is constant.

I would start working through all the ground connections undo them, clean them and then reassemble with a little Vaseline to keep moisture out. You have a bad connection somewhere.
