DIP THE TANK

As my fuel gauge is lying to me i thought i would use a thin stick to dip the tank to see the level but i was surprised to find i could not push the stick into the neck as there is a obstruction about 4 to 5 inches down ..is this a anti syphon measure to stop people nicking g fuel......pushing the stick against the obstruction it feels as though its some sort of rubber blocking it from going in......
any ideas ?????

Not sure if there is a flap in the filler neck but it does have a few bends in it. Could just be stuck at one of those.

As the fuel filler neck enters
The side. Dipping the tank would
Be a bit pointless.

Think dropping the tank and repairing or replacement
Sender is your only option

There is a spring and a metal plate, this is only a guess as ive just had my tank apart and there was a spring and a plate that had fallen off in the tank, no idea how to get it back in so i left it off haha

I thought i would put some redex into the fuel tank 2 weeks ago to see if it might use its cleaning property to clear the dirty tank sender....i kept the tank topped up and after 1 week the gauge is reading okay again
another week has gone by and the gauge is still behaving correctly .....so fingers crossed its worked..will fill to the top today and add some more redex to it..........
