Suzuki Vitara - Behaving Badly

Hi guys :D

First off, I'm new here so please forgive me for any mistakes I make :S

So I'm having a problem with my Vitara and I was hoping you guys might be able to help. I don't know much about cars but I know that something strange is goin on with mine!

I bought it (a 2003 Grand Vitara) just over 2 years ago now and a few months ago it started acting weird. I first noticed that it was revving higher than normal. On the same day, while I was driving it, it just cut out on me. I tried starting it again but there was nothing. I gave it a few minutes and it made an attempt to start, very low revs and then it cut out again. No lights appeared on the dash but by the time the tow truck arrived (30 mins later) it started fine and drove perfectly.

I brought it to my mechanic and they were kinda puzzled cause it was driving fine. They put the computer on it but no faults appeared. On the advice of the main dealer they changed two sensors (located around the timing belt) and sent me on my way.

The thing is that the same thing has now happened numerous times (cutting out) but it always happens at the same place and the engine is always revving slightly higher than normal when I start the car on the days that its happened. The place where it cuts out is at a junction which is at the bottom of a steep hill. When I'm slowing down, I change into 2nd gear and then it cuts out. Its never happened anywhere else! It can run fine for a couple of weeks and then this happens again.

It's now come to the stage where I don't wanna drive the thing but I can't sell it either! The car is in great condition (apart from the obvious). I look after it well in regards to the way I drive it and servicing etc.

As of now the sensors have been changed and its been given new plugs. The automatic choke has been checked.

Not sure what else could be wrong but the guys at the garage are stumped so I thought someone here might have heard of this happening before? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :x

A

This happened on my corsa, turned out to be a camshaft sensor. Do you know anyone who has a code reader?

I'm bringing it to the mechanic again tomorrow. Not sure about the code reader but I'm definitely gonna suggest it to him.

Thanks for the suggestion!!
