Hi all, I'm a newbie and hav just purchased a 04 plate xl7 v6 manual done 54k .Had the car just one day . Notice clutch biting point very low on pull away but a lot easier once up and running . Is this normal ?
Also been playing with transfer selector . When in 4h very difficult to again pull away and the car slows massively on slow speed almost feels like it's going to stall . Is this an issue with transfer box or quite normal..?
Car is in great condition and looks like it's been well maintained . Could do with knowing if it needs attention or is quite normal.
Ta muchly !

Welcome.
4h should feel much the same as 2h. If it feels like there is extra resistance it may indicate an issue with part of the front drivetrain.
Remember you shouldn't use 4wd on grippy surfaces.

Ok , Further information , in 2wd everything fine. In 4h or 4l car locks up at low speed 2 or mph parking speeds and depressing clutch makes no difference. Car will drive fine in 4h or 4l once you have got it going .
Guessing it's not a transfer box issue but more likely to be a drive shaft problem ?

I don't know much about t-cases in vits so I'm not going to say it couldn't be a t-case issue, but it sounds to me like you might have dry u-joints or something similar.
Take off your front driveshaft (if it's like an SJ, which I think it is, then it's just 8 bolts) and check to see if your UJ's move freely, if not then grease your u-joints and/or replace them and be merry. If it moves freely then your problem is probably something inside your front axle (have you checked your oil levels in the front axle?). Does it happen mainly in a straight line, or does the dragging increase when you turn a bit?
That would indicate your birfields are the problem. Another possibility is someone swapped out one of your diffs and the ratios don't match anymore.
And as Dan says - you're not testing on tarmac, right? You'll get driveline windup and something will eventually break.
