hand brake and MOT

Hi
My sj413 is due it's Spanish ITV (MOT equivalent) next week - the buggers make us have 'em every 6 months here! This'll be it's first in my ownership. I was wondering how the hand brake is tested as it's on the transfer box rather than the rear wheels? Mine's terrible so I need to have a look over the weekend and hope I can just adjust it - I understand that on the Spanish SJs there's a square adjuster nut on the drum - is it in the same place as the hole on the Japanese models does anyone know? I have read the info on here but I can't see a clear pic anywhere of the adjuster . Cheers

Japanese ones are internally adjusted through that hole. I don't have a good picture of the Spanish adjuster which is on the backplate behind the drum. I assume the locknut is removed in this photo, but once loosened the square can be turned to adjust the shoes/cable free play and hopefully improve its performance.

Ah, just got under the car and found I don't have the transfer box handbrake! Never assume!

Is it a Spanish built samurai sport?
If so, you can use the bracket where the cable splits to get them two sides adjusted evenly.
I always found that if the shoes were good and the cable ends are level when the handbrake applied it would be ok
