wasted technology

It was my mates birthday yesterday and his mrs
Had paid for a load of us to do a landrover experience.
Run by edd at rockingham castle. He was good laugh and
Was a pro racing driver with bowler.
It was a good laugh and as a car guy im always intersted in
Anything with 4 wheels even if it is a modern. We had the chalk and cheese of motors to use and swapped over half way so we got to drive both. They were 6month old.
Range rover sport autobiography with 100miles on it
Defender 110. Diff lock and mud tyres
I know what a defender is and does so want to check out the sport.
It was a seriously impressive car, i stopped it on a 45 drop and with some switch pressing and pedal tapping it just reversed up it
On idle pretty much without me doing anything. Cameras here there and everywhere, sonar system for water depth when we was wading and the water was up the max lever to prove its cappabilites the sonar also helps for debris at the bottom of the water. The car could also be driven remotely via an app on a phone.
I was very impressed and a truely amazing bit of engineering. but then at over £100,000 i should be.
We swapped to the defender but couldnt go half as many of the
Obsticals as the defender just wouldnt do them safely due to the lack of safety systems. And spent the rest of the time being smashed around inside the cab bouncing and crashing over stuff.
But the reality is that the defender with bascially no high tech
Aids is the most likely vehicle to be used in rough terrains alot and used as tool.
Yet the sport , the vehicle that has all the gizmos a normal driver could need to be able to drive over some very rough terrains
Will likely never leave the tarmac.
And i cant help but think, whats the point in developing all this stuff
For no one to use? It just a waste of time and money.
