Klunking engine noise when cold :(

Post by SlimGrim » Sun Jun 19, 2016 11:15 am

Keeping this one short as I've already written this and my pc tuned off
Anyways for the past 3 days when my Suzuki is completely cold (first start of the day) she makes a klunking noise for about 10-20 seconds as if somethings tapping the bonnet maybe :er: ?, I haven't been fast enough to get outside and lift the bonnet to see if it persists however something that may be worth noting is that it has occasionally done it when warm when I reverse slowly, very odd issue and is completely absent for the rest of the day, any ideas appreciated :)

vimeo killed the audio and vid quality but you can srill kinda make out the klunking noise :/

Sounds like its just running rough cos its not warmed up properly. You've got the standard carb on it?
Could be the choke is not working quite well enough...

Thats a typical engine noise from a SJ413 after its been thrashed down the motorway at 80mph,as long as it goes when its warmed up then i cannot see that its a major internal problem, probably as twiss has mentioned maybe just running rough at tick over due to it being cold.

I find that if i have any noises from the engine they go when i turn the volume up on the radio :hahaha:

yeah standard carb which is fcked to say the least, idling very hisgh when i first got it (as they do haha) had it tweaked and it was better but not great, then it was starting to stall occasioally at lights because of the carb ( this was last year not cause of this new klunk) so in the end I decided to have the top butterfly of the choke permanently open, has been like that for about 2 months and when i next see my brother who works out on the rigs, he has rebuilt/bead blasted another 413 carb i had picked up so that will hopefully fix the issue :/

Oh, that's annoying, my first action would be to, raise the hood, wind down both windows and start her up :?:

I'm on my own as well most of the time, but I circumvent :D

Trust me, leave the standard one alone, scrap the damn carb.
Get an SU, whatever the cost. It WILL be worth it 100%

Rockwatt for the inlet manifold
Ebay or wherever for the carb itself
