4 wheel drive noise
4 wheel drive noise
Het guys well today i finally done / etempted offroading first time since its bin finished and it lasted about 1 minute lol so i drove down to the place i was going as normal everything fine first bit I etempted was a big bank so i got put locked the hubs and put it in 4 low and awAy i went up the bank and hurd this clicking/clanking noise so when i got to the top and got out to investigate gpt my mate to drive it around and seemed like every time i turned whilst moving it would make this noise couldnt properly locate where it was coming from on the front axel diff ,hubs, halfshafts so after my 1 minute of offroading i put it back in 2wd and hubs back to free and noise goes drives as normal , any ideas anyone before i rip it to bits , thanks

Re: 4 wheel drive noise
Possible clicky CV joint?
Try driving it in 2wd but with the hubs locked and see if it makes a noise.

New CVs would be required.

Re: 4 wheel drive noise
Lock the front hubs and drive it round going from full lock left to right and you should be able to hear it clicking round and possibly feel the feedback through the steering wheel.
Further investigations is to jack it up and take both front wheels off and again move it lock to lock whilst trying to turn it manually. It should jam up.
Also possible the tyres are catching on the spring / bulkhead but being SPOA should be unlikely.

Re: 4 wheel drive noise
If it is the cv's then you should still be hearing the noise with the hubs locked with it in 2wd. With the hubs locked its turning the half shafts and cv's as the wheel moves. But if you have the shaft out you should be able to feel it with your hands, as jordi said it would feel notchy/bind up. Have you checked the uj's on the front prop? It does sound like the cv's to me tho so I think it would be worth checking both sides as these noises can travel through the axle and make it hard to tell which side there coming from.
Re: 4 wheel drive noise
Cheers mate , yea definitely didnt do it in 2WD wif hubs locked like but it stright in 4WD and done it stright away quite loud only on lock as i was turning i could feel it through the weel like bumpy n as it made the noisei felt like i needed to stop as was gunna smash something , yea i have it out but not to sure on what its ment to be like lol like a said all bearings r intact , not sure if they r standard but heres a few pics , there is a tiny abit of play in the front uj but not a great deal to make that noise a would have thought , thanks
