:S Hi, I may be being a bit thick here (has happened before), I want to replace the handbrake cable on my 1989 Jap Samurai SJ413. The cable goes to each rear wheel drum so, is it one 'y' shaped cable or is it two or even three separate cables I need? Ta

OK ta, it looks like mine is number 2 and I'm buggered if I can see how to remove it, its all hidden under the t shaped piece of metal so I can't see the way the linkages interconnect, I got the left hand side one out but stuck on the right. The Haynes manual I've got is shite! :-( :'-(

I find that the average Haynes is good for starting campfires, but that's about all.

I have the single cable type, so I haven't ever had to undo a double type. I *think* twiss has a double cable style handbrake, he might know of a trick to get it off. ScottieJ probably does too - he's worked on almost every type of Suzuki that I've ever heard of. And probably a few I haven't.

From what I remember, I removed the rod from the lever end, to give more movement on the t piece, that way you can move it to pull the piece that holds the cable. I really struggled to then get replacement cables.
Tell the truth I got so sick of that handbrake that I replaced it with a drum on the t/box.

It's a twat of a set up. How straightforward is fitting a drum to the transfer box?

Wasn't too hard to do, remove the flange off the back of the t/box, clean out he bolt holes. I had to make a bracket for the cable to fit into which I bolted through the tunnel

I'm not a fan of the handbrake on mine, no matter what I seem to do it's only marginally more effective than a marzipan door knocker. It passes MOT, and holds on a hill, but it just feels *sooooo* weak!!! I have an X-Eng t-case handbrake kit (disk brake instead of the drum), but getting around to fitting it is another matter entirely...
