Hi Guys
I'm new to the forum.
I'm building a JC Midge which is essentially rebodying a 413 to look like a pre-war roadster.
I want to convert the car to 2 wheel drive.
To that end is there a compatible gearbox?

They have a seperate transfer box so you can just remove the transfer box and front prop. Need to get a new custom rear prop though.
All depends why you are converting it?

Hi mate, the sj's all use separate transfer boxes, the gearbox's have a small prop connecting them to the transfer box. Basically a standard sj gearbox is a rwd box, in theory take the transfer box out and its rwd. Don't know how well this would work tho, you would have to get a longer prop made to go from the output of the gearbox to the rear axle but the drive line wouldn't be good as the transfer box offsets the gearbox output to the diffs which are offset in the axles. Thats presuming you want it to be rwd and not fwd.

You would also need to covert to 5.12 ring and pinions in the rear axle to correct the gearing as you would loose the extra reduction you get from the transfer box.
With the length of the prop you would need to run the offset diff shouldn't really be an issue.
I'll be honest I'm not really a fan of those midge things. An SJ looks better but each to their own.

Is that one of those cars that you can get the plans off Ebay and build a similar car that 'Noddy' use too drive.
