Jimny chrome side bars issue

Hi,
The Jimny decided to hit a post on the n/s and luckily enough the chrome bar took the whack.
Ive purchased some second hand bars and just come to fit them.
Ive taken off the old bars no problem & have replaced all the nuts/bolts etc.
Ive wire brused the brackets and applied grease.
Fitted the o/s fine but on the n/s i have an issue with the rear fixing.
The rear fixing is like a scaffold clamp that clamps either side/around a cylindrical tube that comes out from the chassis.
My issue is, with the bolts done right up im still able to move the clamp around with ease.
Ive looked at the o/s and i can feel only the clamp and then the cylindrical tube.
I dont feel any kind of spacer etc in between the two,i say feel as i cant see due to the body kit/sill covers.
Can you advise where my issue might be.
Basic terms, its like a 2 inch cylindrical tube but the clamp is say for a 2 1/2 tube.
I dont have anything left that hasnt been fitted so im stumped.
I removed the n/s/r fixing as i had to cut off the 10mm bolts where the o/s come off fine.
Hence why now putting it back on gives me an issue.
