It's finally started, going to be doing two builds at once, this and my LWB.

Don't let the pics fool you.....it's a mess!

So lets start with a good ol' tear down :shock:

Nice Illegal chassis mod for a power steering conversion, this involves cutting the Vin number off the chassis and welding it back on as a 'plate' something VOSA and the DVLA would not be happy with.......let alone the chassis notch :x

So the 'new' gearbox mount/crossmember has bent and well round holes would be nice

Fuel and brake lines just zip tied together and not properly attached to the chassis.....also should have failed MOTs

And well then there's the welding

Oh and the winch tray that was attached with 1 10mm grade 8.8bolt and Just the two braces sticking out of the side of the tray so maybe 3-4" of weld, I'm quite impressed it's still attached to be honest.

So after seeing all this it's just not worth the time it would take to save this chassis.

We are going to use the body on another chassis and this one will take one final journey to the only place it's good for.......the scrap yard.

Wow that chassis is awful. Hope the other one is ok. You do have some good bits though, that roof looks new and you have the uber rare rear wheel hanger. Not sure about those 'A' Team wheels lol.

I thought there would be some initials welded to it somewhere, You can't drill round holes with a gas axe.

Wow, just shows what is hidden under what looks like a decent motor!

tbh I'm not sure why a gas axe was even used when a drill bit and hole saw would have produced a much neater finish and probably been quicker.

Well I knew it was bad but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad underneath, We mainly bought it for the body, most of the panels are good so it's a good base for a restoration so didn't really have a proper look at the chassis, there's some stuff on the body that needs to be sorted as well but nothing that can't be put right.

Yeah there's some good bits with it and it's got some other stuff we needed for a restoration. It's just a shame it's going to take two Lj's to make one nice one.

The other chassis needs a bit of work but I have yet another lj chassis for a future build with parts that can be used to fix it, the future build won't need the bits I'm cutting off :thumbup:
