Timing belt question on vitara g16a

Post by reaperweb » Fri May 01, 2020 10:12 am

Hi All

Going to do the timing belt on my 1993 vitara 1.6 8v, do you really need to remove the cylinder head cover and loosen all valve adjusting screws before changing belt and redo all the valve lashes after doing the belt properly and not letting anything move ????? if you know what i mean :hmm:

Ive seen vids where this has not been done when changing belt.

I did mine recently and didn't slacken clearance first but did adjust clearances after. Makes sense to loosen off first I suppose but I didn't find any adverse affects when changing belt either.

I've done it loads of times without slackening off the rockers with no issues  Thats a point, I should probably change mine at some point soon, haven't got a clue how old it is...
