Post by SJ410Rocket » Fri Dec 13, 2024 11:01 am

Hello,
Is it straight bolt on to swap LJ80 gearbox into SJ410 type 1(1982)?
If someone done it before, can you pls give me a little bit of information.

You’d be much better off swapping in a later sj410 gearbox. The lj80 gearboxes aren’t great.

The bellhousing, flywheel/clutch and spigot bearing set up is the same so it will bolt straight up.

The lj80 gearbox mount set up is completely different to the 410, the lj80 box has mounts on the side while the 410 has a centred rear mount underneath.

The shifter is a remote set up on the lj80 unlike the top mount shifter on the 410 gearbox so that side of it is going to be quite tricky as well.

I think it’s probably going to be more hassle than it’s worth tbh. If you want to lower the gearing in the sj410 you could run lj80 diffs as they are slightly lower than the 410 diffs and bolt straight in.

Or swap to a later style transfer box with a 4.16 gearset, it won’t lower the high ratio but will give you plenty more reduction in low.
